Industrial slurry transport involves the movement of complex, multi-phase mixtures consisting of solid mineral particulates suspended in a liquid carrier medium. In mining, dredging, and coal processing, the abrasive nature of the media causes intense hydrodynamic wear on pump components. Metal Lined Slurry Pumps utilize high-chrome white iron castings engineered to resist continuous impact and sliding abrasion.
Understanding wear patterns (impact wear vs. sliding erosion) allows operators to select the optimal alloy composition. Standard configurations deploy high-chrome alloys containing 25% to 30% chromium, which precipitate chromium carbides (M7C3) within a hard martensitic matrix, yielding microstructures capable of handling slurry pH drops and intense mechanical grinding.
